Position Overview
Youth Utilizing Power and Praise Organization (YUPP) seeks a passionate and skilled Dance Teacher to lead culturally responsive dance instruction for students ages 6-25 in the Breaking the Barriers (BTBPA) Performing Arts Program. The BTBPA Dance Teacher will foster a safe, expressive, and empowering space for youth to explore movement, develop their artistic abilities, and grow in confidence.
Key Responsibilities
- Teach monthly dance classes aligned with the BTB theme and values
- Design and implement warm-ups, choreography, and performance pieces for students of varying skill levels
- Prepare students for BTB’s annual performance and community showcases
- Incorporate cultural relevance, empowerment, and mentorship into instruction
- Collaborate with other BTB instructors in the other concentrations to support interdisciplinary performances
- Attend scheduled planning meetings and contribute to curriculum design
- Track student progress and maintain attendance records
- Uphold YUPP’s commitment to safety, inclusion, and excellence
Preferred Dance Styles
- Hip-hop
- Contemporary
- Afrobeat
- Liturgical/Praise dance
- Jazz or other culturally relevant styles
Qualifications
- Proven experience teaching dance to youth or young adults
- Strong background in one or more of the preferred dance styles
- Experience working in diverse, community-based or faith-based settings
- Passion for youth empowerment and creative arts
- Ability to choreograph original pieces and lead group rehearsals
- Reliable, organized, and flexible with strong communication skills
